Blockchain: How Aware the World is?
In India, when I tell, I am a content writer, most of my relatives are amazed to know there is job called ‘content writing’. I don’t remember how many times I have to tell them, “No, I don’t work for a publication/newspaper. I work in a tech company.” The second question as obvious it is — what do I write about? I take a pause, say ‘blockchain’, and then watch the expression on their face, most of the time it is dismissal, it is like I am talking about a UFO. I then know, it is about time to speak the buzzword, ‘bitcoin’. Bitcoin in most cases sparkles the interest, yes, we all have read those headlines about the soaring price of bitcoin and the numerous million-dollar scams.
I still remember the day when one evening, me and my father were just discussing my work and all of a sudden, he turned around and asked me, “ I hope you are not going to end up in Prison one day.” I was so startled at first that no words came out of my mouth, seconds later I started laughing. Once the laughter subdued, I explained to him that we don’t deal in cryptocurrencies, moreover I am just a writer. It was actually the time when the price of bitcoin was making a new record every day. Like a child in ice-cream parlor, I used to check the price of bitcoin every few minutes and my father was aware of this fascination of mine.
Sometimes I wonder how a person like me ended up writing about technology and that too this emerging technology so much. The world I know is split in three when it comes to blockchain:
· People who know about it and believe something big is coming;
· People who know about it and think it is not going to last long;
· People who haven’t even heard about it;
…And there might be a fourth who think blockchain and bitcoin are synonyms.
The first few days in office I used to roam around in amazement seeing my colleagues talking about blockchain. Actually the time when I join, we were doing an ICO, and I was given work from the very first day. Initially I used to be baffled, how can I write about something I don’t understand, after all I come from a non-technical background. But soon enough I started exploring and learning, whenever I was stuck, there were people explaining me all these technical things in the most simplistic manner.
Probably that’s what I wish to start doing here. Why not explain these technologies to general people who are all unaware of what is blockchain, and how it can benefit them? People who I come across every day, relatives of mine who are living outside the country and wish to send money home with ease and at relatively fast speed.
It is time to know the change!
